Pierluigi Passaro Introduces Variscite’s Highly Flexible i.MX 6UL SoM
Pierluigi Passaro, Variscite’s R&D expert, introduces the VAR-SOM-6UL – a highly flexible module offering a wide range of interfaces and connectivity options in a design optimized for power, size, and cost. As a member of Variscite’s VAR-SOM Pin2Pin family, it allows developers to scale performance and features without changing the carrier board design.
Pierluigi Passaro: Here we have the VAR-SOM-6UL.
That is the entry level of the VAR-SOM family. It’s an evergreen solution. It’s based on NXP i.MX 6UL. It can mount up to 1 GB of RAM, and on the boot media side it can mount either half a gig of NAND or 128 GB of eMMC.
It supports display interfaces, camera input, and two Ethernet interfaces. We have an NXP Wi-Fi, and it also features the basic CAN, UART, SPI, and I2C interfaces. It comes in an industrial temperature range of -40 to +85 °C.
We support, for this SoM, Linux – Yocto, Debian, Boot2Qt.
The carrier board here is the Concerto board, but it’s also compatible with the Symphony board that supports the whole VAR-SOM family.
Flexible Connectivity in a Cost-Optimized Design
The VAR-SOM-6UL’s main features are:
- USB 2.0: 1x Host, 1x OTG, 2x CAN
- UART, SPI, I2C, SD/MMC, RTC, ADC
- Wi-Fi single-band 802.11b/g/n or 6 dual-band 802.11 ax/ac/a/b/g/n with optional 802.15.4, and Bluetooth/BLE 5.4
- Camera in, audio, and display outputs
- Up to 1024 MB DDR3L, 8-128 GB eMMC, 128-512 MB SLC NAND
- -40 to 85°C industrial temperature range
- OS: Linux (Yocto, Debian, Boot2QT)
Evaluate the VAR-SOM-6UL for your next embedded design.
