Variscite and Memfault Join Forces to Enhance Embedded Systems Monitoring and OTA

Wednesday, 21 May 2025

Variscite has formed a strategic partnership with Memfault to bolster device management capabilities across its System on Module (SoM) portfolio, including modules based on DART-MX95, VAR-SOM-MX93, DART-MX8M-PLUS, and VAR-SOM-AM62P. This collaboration equips engineering teams with advanced tools for remote monitoring, troubleshooting, and secure software update deployment.

Advanced monitoring and over-the-air (OTA) updates for embedded devices

The integration with Memfault’s platform adds advanced diagnostic capabilities to Variscite’s solutions. Development teams gain access to valuable data from end devices such as performance metrics, system events, and operational statistics without requiring physical access. This visibility enables proactive maintenance, allowing engineers to detect and resolve issues without relying on end-user feedback.

Complementing these capabilities is the ability to securely deploy fixes with OTA updates capabilities. This ability to detect, debug, and deploy fixes swiftly and remotely shortens troubleshooting time from weeks or months to days. Memfault’s platform delivers these powerful capabilities while requiring minimal power and memory resources.

“Consumer and industrial users rely on their connected devices, yet it’s notoriously difficult for developers to identify and solve issues, let alone monitor battery performance, system crashes, or boot failures without the Memfault platform,” said Justin Platt, Memfault Director of Partnerships. “Our integration with Variscite’s reliable hardware infrastructure is production-ready and this partnership makes it simple for customers to get complete visibility into device performance and quality in the field.”

Reliability for critical applications

For projects with stringent performance requirements, such as healthcare equipment, this collaboration delivers substantial advantages. Variscite’s medical-grade ISO 13485 certification pairs effectively with Memfault’s monitoring and maintenance tools to create exceptional reliability in environments where system failures cannot be tolerated.

Simplified compliance and development workflow

Beyond technical advantages, the partnership helps customers meet regulatory requirements through Memfault’s SOC 2 certification and GDPR compatibility alongside Variscite’s extensive compliance certifications. This combination positions developers to address emerging regulations including the EU Data Act and Cyber Resilience Act.

“With Memfault’s platform now available to Variscite customers, developers can have enhanced insights into their software and greater control throughout their product’s lifecycle,” said Ofer Austerlitz, VP of Business Development and Sales at Variscite. “Combined with Variscite’s production-ready solutions that accelerate time to market, this partnership further supports our shared goal: helping customers bring reliable products to market, faster.”

VAR+NRG. Built for MedTech. Ready for Compliance
Getting a regulated medical product to market requires more than great hardware. Engineering teams must simultaneously manage embedded software, cybersecurity, QMS documentation, and validation – keeping all of it aligned around a single certified, long-term-reliable product. That is precisely the challenge a new Variscite and NRG partnership is designed to address.
Variscite, a leading System on Module manufacturer with proven expertise in medical applications, has joined forces with NRG, an engineering firm specializing in regulated medtech systems, to deliver an integrated hardware-software solution for companies building embedded medical products. The partnership gives development teams access to both a proven hardware platform and the software and engineering capabilities needed to support regulated development goals and product readiness.

The global component crisis is forcing embedded teams to confront an uncomfortable reality: not all SoM vendors are equally equipped to weather it. In the latest episode of the Embedded Executive Podcast, Variscite CEO Ohad Yaniv joined Rich Nass of Embedded Computing Design to discuss what it takes to keep customer projects on schedule when supplies are under sustained pressure and why the answer starts with who controls your manufacturing. Unlike vendors who rely on subcontractors, Variscite designs and manufactures its entire System on Module portfolio in-house, with production fully certified to ISO 9001, 13485, and 27001 standards.
